Hybrid rice is a type of rice that has been bred from two very different parent plants. A specialized seed production process and system is required to keep the seed pure. Hybrids are produced by crossing two inbred – genetically fixed – varieties of a particular crop. Hybrids are special because they express what is called "heterosis" or hybrid vigor.
