Overview
Ethylene-vinyl acetate, EVA, or poly is the copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. The share of vinyl acetate in terms of weight percent varies from 10–40%, while ethylene accounts for the remaining. EVA is used for produing a wide range of products. Some include cigarette filters, coating on soccer shoes, artificial flowers, surfboard traction pads, boxing gloves, and others. EVA cricket bats and balls are popular products among children. However, there is not much of an application of EVA in professional cricket events.
In professional cricket, bats made from willow wood are preferred. Cricket bats are generally made from the white willow, also called cricket bat willow. White willow is largely used for production of cricket bats due to its high shock-resistant ability and overall resilience. English willow and the Kashmir willow are the two major willow woods used to produce cricket bats. English willow has its limitations in terms of requirements for producing cricket bats, owing to shortage of bat makers with the skills to nurture willow saplings to trees. Only a handful of UK companies have expertise in nurturing English willow for producing cricket bats. English willow bats are lighter to carry than Kashmir willow bats and provide more stability as the blades are thicker. There are certain grades assigned to English willow bats depending on quality. Kashmir willow bats on the other hand, are made from willow produced in Kashmir and Pakistan. The wood is heavier and has a brownish tinge to it. Kashmir willow is considerably a lower-cost material, but bats produced using this wood are not as resilient as English willow bats.
