It forms homopolymers and copolymers which can be obtained from acrylic acid and its salts, amides, and esters, etc. The monomer is a very useful starting material for chemical synthesis since it easily undergoes addition reactions with a wide spectrum of organic and inorganic compounds.
These co-monomers are useful as cross-linking agents in plastisols and in monomer-polymer slurries such as for dental plastics. These compounds are neither toxic nor unpleasant to handle. In cross-linking and grafting, these are useful in concentrations of 2 to 20%. They are of low volatility and also have a value of polymer stabilizers against degradation and heating.
